Raul Herrera Jr.

Raul Herrera is a Mexican-American spoken word artist, playwright, and educator. He has been involved with Get Lit for more than eight years, facilitating the growth of students across the United States. Herrera has served as the organization’s Education Coordinator, a Get Lit Player, Literati Fellowship member, and Teaching Artist. His writing is featured in the books Get Lit Rising and Coiled Serpent published by Tia Chucha Press. In 2017, he co-wrote DANTE, an original adaptation of Dante’s Inferno, produced by the Academy Award winner Tim Robbins. Raul has performed for thousands of youth across the nation, is a TEDx speaker, and panelist for AWP in 2018. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Omaha with a Bachelor’s in Communication. There he distinguished himself nationally with multiple gold medals in Speech and Debate. Most recently he co-wrote and co-stars in the feature film Summertime, directed by Carlos Lopez Estrada.
